Research beginnings Melanie Miller

How is it?

Name
What you want out of the course? Formal research...
Any research you have been involved in? Clickers...
Educational research comes from social science
Salts good for you ... then Now salt is bad for you..
What is reseach all about?
I'm confused as a consummer
Research is the :
systematic applicatio of a
family of methods to produce
trustworthy information about a problem
thesis = argument
My lense of how I look at things
Epistomology... what does this mean? from my perspective
Monitor - supervisor one who knows the topic area and 1 that knows the process stuff
Research Process:
Research Q + Aims How is it? I'm a constructivist....state this in the intro about yourself (check the alignment) their theoretical beliefs are...? we need to talk about what this is in the thesis we are reviewing. like the Epistemology and the Ontology... stuff about the researcher
Lit review
Methodology
Methods
Findings
Conclusions Discussions Summary
50% of references must be current other wise can be deemed to be out of date
Ontology... the way I see things from my culture...my templates...my personal researcher...The big picture is my framework ... focus in on the small stuff this is what I see explain how I see things and why... my beliefs and culture...
Round two with Howard Youngs from dept. of Ed
encouraged to do action research
core knowledge stuff
walk out with a questionaire
Hi I'm Christopher
Marine
research on the clickers using quanitative qualatative stuff as well
I hope to be able to..... I'll tell u later....a bit of backward mapping
re search ... re = looking again so what are we looking for again and again
seraching for patterns that are occuring...so what does this mean? diging deeper stuff...
interpret how is the learning experience viewed
looking at peoples interpretation of the world
a real focus on the individual they will be different ... why?
we collect research data... analyse it...= qualitative analysis is what we get
opened q = qualitative stuff... through our own voice ... general patterns
generalise for a group (meanings)
not interested in deep individuals interpretation
instead
overall what are the patterns or trends... go to a bigger group = quantitaive... attach numbers to it... collect data...analyse it... quantitaive analysis (numbers)

mixed methods research...is inbetween the two... a combination of these...
base line data for over view... then individual to check it out....
justify it theres no right or wrong... a supervisor can guide you...

framework of questionaires
look at surveymonkey.com....
by completing this anonymous questionaire you are providing your consent to participate in this research.
formats of questions:
x choice
rateable scales
open ended
true/faulse
answer with numbers
yes/no
calculating answers
closed question number response
ranking... predetermined terms... open....
linked open ended... if you chose q 3 ...explain in your own words...are/is there any others
semantic differentuals ... opposite ends
